Although our name - Ballard Brass & Aluminum, Inc.
- denotes brass/bronze and aluminum alloys only, we produce gray iron
castings Class 30 and 40 for technically sophisticated parts.
Our iron castings are superior to most cast iron suppliers in that
they have excellent finish and are manufactured to be readily
machinable.
In the past we have
been a leading supplier for the Navy's small boat program. We
produced manganese bronze castings for LCVP and LCPL boats using a
quarter million pounds for 497 vessels. Manganese bronze is
high-strength yellow brass used for products requiring 65,000 pounds
to 90,000 pounds tensile strength (similar to mild steel).
Another alloy is
copper nickel, both 90-10 and 70-30, which is used in special
applications for fittings such as elbows and tees.
We also supply high quality
products to the Marine Industry, including propeller nuts, zinc nuts,
boats struts and other fine products which excel in
corrosion-resistant properties. |

The use of
corrosion-resistant
products has always been extremely important for the major players in
the marine industry - shipbuilding companies, the US Navy etc., and
Ballard Brass & Aluminum has always been at the forefront in offering
the latest technologies to produce the finest defenses to
electrolysis and corrosion-resistant products.
The use of more
corrosion-resistant
alloys is increasing and aluminum bronzes of various alloys are used
for many marine requirements (propellers, gears, acid resisting
pumps) which require good strength as well as defense against
electrolysis. These have replaced many high tin alloys.
Aluminum casting alloys we provide are 319,
356, A356, 535, 713 and others. We offer heat-treat when required.
All sizes of
propeller nuts,
zinc nuts and
boat
struts are now available through Ballard Brass & Aluminum, in large
and small quantities, and a variety of alloys to suit your particular
specifications.
